Between structure and uncertainty

Laima Studio is the artistic practice of a Portuguese woman whose work emerges from a gradual transition away from a traditional, corporate career towards a life increasingly centred on art.

The name Laima comes from the artist's maternal family and carries a personal history of being misheard and misspelled. Once experienced as a form of displacement, this unfamiliarity has become central to the practice: an invitation to question fixed meanings, reconsider what is taken for granted, and engage more closely with what initially resists recognition.

Rooted in Portuguese identity and shaped by the tension between structure and uncertainty, Laima Studio explores what it means to depart from established systems and inherited expectations. Still evolving, it operates as a space for research, experimentation, and the exploration of alternative ways of living, seeing and creating.
